Harry Hunter Becomes Alexander Devine’s Virtual Running Coach

We are thrilled to introduce Harry Hunter, our new ‘virtual running coach’ at Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice Service. Harry is a seasoned runner with a remarkable story that will inspire anyone who takes on a running challenge to raise funds for our hospice.

At the age of 76, Harry made headlines earlier this year when he became the oldest British man to complete the infamous Marathon des Sables (MDS), a gruelling 160-mile (250km) ultra-marathon through the heart of the Sahara Desert in southern Morocco. Known as one of the toughest foot races on Earth, the MDS takes participants through unforgiving terrain with scorching temperatures reaching up to 50°C (122°F), all while carrying their own supplies for the week-long event.

The race demands not only physical endurance but also mental toughness. Runners tackle enormous sand dunes, dried-up riverbeds, and rocky plains, often with little more than the shimmering heat of the desert on the horizon. With limited water rations and a high risk of dehydration, heatstroke, and exhaustion, the Marathon des Sables is a true test of human resilience. It’s no surprise that many runners who take on the challenge don’t make it to the finish line.

But Harry did. He crossed the finish line in a testament to his unwavering determination, experience, and passion for running. His incredible achievement has made him a legend in the running world, and now he’s ready to share his wisdom with you.

After 22 years in the British Army, Harry retired from the military and completed his Level 3 Personal Trainer qualifications and continues to run boot camps in the local area since. But running has always been his passion, having first run the London Marathon in 1989 and going on to run it 16 times! He has completed the World Marathon Majors – Boston, Chicago, London, Berlin and New York (before Tokyo was added) – and has even trained many other people to do the same over the years.

Whether you’re a seasoned runner or just starting out, Harry will offer practical tips, training advice, and motivational support to help you succeed in any running challenge you choose to take on for Alexander Devine. With Harry’s guidance, you’ll not only be doing something amazing for yourself but also raising much-needed funds for children with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions.

Ready to lace up your trainers? Whether it’s a 5K, a half marathon, or even a full marathon, now’s your chance to take on a running challenge with Harry in your corner. Sign up for a challenge today and let Harry’s expertise lead you across the finish line!
