Alexander Devine’s Big Chick Knit, Spring 2025
The Big Chick Knit is back at Alexander Devine by popular demand! Each year, incredible knitters from the local area make hundreds of adorable knitted chicks and friends, each with a chocolate egg inside. The chicks and friends are then sold to raise vital funds for our children’s hospice service.
Our chicks and friends will be chirping back in March 2025!

Knit or crochet for us
Get those knitting needles or crochet hooks ready to create as many chicks and friends as you can manage.
You can use whatever colours you have available to you, don’t worry if you’re unsure how to knit these adorable Easter friends, we have a handy guide to help you, download the patterns here.
It is never to early to start knitting for our 2025 campaign, so if you would like to try our patterns and get involved, make sure to get clicking! We can’t wait to see your chick-tastic creations next year.
All knits need to be sent to us or dropped off by our chick-deadline: Monday 24th February 2025
Collect or donate chocolate eggs
We need hundreds of chocolate eggs for our chicks and friends. Each chick and friend needs a chocolate egg, these need to be Crème Egg size to fit inside the chick.
We have collection places out in the local community where you can donate any eggs, or you can send them directly to us via our Amazon Wishlist.
We are always looking for new places across our local area to collect these eggs, if you would like to organise a collection then please do let us know so we can send you everything you need.
All chocolate egg collections need to be sent to us or dropped off by Monday 3rd March 2025, this ensures we have plenty of time to fill each knit and sell our chicks and friends across Spring.
Buy your chick or help sell our knitted friends
When it’s time for the chicks to fly the nest, you can purchase your very own unique chick. These will be for sale out in the community or you can purchase them via our online shop.
Chicks will be available to buy from Monday 3rd March 2025.
Alternatively you can request a box of our chicks and friends to sell out in your community; these are EGGs-tremely popular in offices, schools or local shops as well as lots of other places across the community. And 100% of the money raised from these adorable knitted friends goes directly to our charity, making a huge difference to the children and families we support!

Other ways to get involved

Our chick submission deadline has now passed and we are incredibly grateful for the amazing response we have received, however if you didn’t quite manage to get your chicks in on time please send us an email at fundraising@alexanderdevine.org

Need our help?
The word hospice should not seem scary and getting support from us doesn’t have to mean a child’s death is imminent. Helping to enrich the lives of the children and their families is at the heart of our service, our end of life and bereavement support is just a part of what we do.
Our children’s hospice service covers the whole of Berkshire and into surrounding counties. If you think your child may be eligible for our services, please do get in touch.
