Windsor Boys’ School Boat Club ‘row to Paris’

On Saturday 16 February, around 60 boys from Windsor Boys’ School Boat Club took on the mighty challenge of rowing over 500km, the equivalent distance of Paris (Olympic venue for the 2024 Olympic games) from Windsor (host venue for the 2012 rowing Olympic Games Regatta).

The boys, aged between 13 and 18 years old, were out in force all day outside the Windsor Royal Station shopping precinct.

It is the 10th time that this hugely successful fundraising event has been held with the aim being to raise money to increase opportunity in the sport as well as raise vital funds for Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice Service.

George Torpey, community fundraiser for Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice Service said:

“It was a tough challenge and the boys were incredible! We are delighted that they have yet again chosen to support Alexander Devine and the money they raise will make such a difference to local children with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions and their families.”

Mark Wilkinson, Director of Rowing at Windsor Boys’ School, commented on the challenge:

“It’s great that the boys were out raising money not just for the boat club but for a very important local charity — the day was incredibly tough but the boys took on the challenge as with real determination and smashed the distance!”

Need our help?

The word hospice should not seem scary and getting support from us doesn’t have to mean a child’s death is imminent. Helping to enrich the lives of the children and their families is at the heart of our service, our end of life and bereavement support is just a part of what we do.

Our children’s hospice service covers the whole of Berkshire and into surrounding counties. If you think your child may be eligible for our services, please do get in touch.

One of the greatest and most precious gifts our charity receives is time 💙💛We are fortunate to have 155 amazing volunteers who collectively donate around 2,000 hours of their time each year. Without their vital support, we would not be there for children and families that need us. This #VolunteersWeek we will be celebrating what inspires our volunteers to make their unique contributions to our charity, whether at the hospice or out in the community.
