Going to great lengths

Our corporate partners go to incredible lengths to support us and none more so than the team from Fiscal Technologies who attempted to swim the channel this week to raise money for us.

Their determination and strength of spirit in taking on such a challenge is inspiring.

The team came so close to completing it, but sadly with just five miles to go they had to stop. One of the team members David Griffiths, spoke about the challenge:

“What an amazing adventure! We started at 03.22am in the pitch black, with heavy rain, big waves and lightning from Samphire Hoe sand bank. We endured horrendous weather until after 9am. However, after nearly 10 hours of swimming, one of our team members unfortunately got extremely cold and really couldn’t continue so we had to finish.

I was right out of my comfort zone and learnt a lot about myself and teams…every person is key. You have to support each other, having strong clear goals, be committed, adapt quickly and also together according to the conditions.

I would like to thank everyone who has donated to Alexander Devine. When I was struggling and doubted my abilities, I thought about the kids and parents who go through far more than I could ever imagine and they in part kept me focused on the why and task in hand!”

Need our help?

The word hospice should not seem scary and getting support from us doesn’t have to mean a child’s death is imminent. Helping to enrich the lives of the children and their families is at the heart of our service, our end of life and bereavement support is just a part of what we do.

Our children’s hospice service covers the whole of Berkshire and into surrounding counties. If you think your child may be eligible for our services, please do get in touch.
