Join Us for a Night of Elegance at the Mayor’s Charity Dinner
We are thrilled to announce that Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice Service has been selected as the beneficiary of this year’s prestigious Mayor’s Charity Dinner, taking place on Friday, 27th September 2024, at the magnificent Windsor Guildhall.
We would like to extend our thanks to Mayor of Maidenhead and Windsor, Counsellor Simon Bond, for the warm invitation and for his continued support.
This exclusive event promises to be an unforgettable evening, set against the backdrop of one of the most majestic and historic locations in Britain. The Grade I listed Windsor Guildhall, with its stately columns and ornate ceilings, has hosted royalty and dignitaries, and now it will open its doors to support our vital work in children’s palliative care.
Time and Tickets
The evening will commence at 7pm, with a welcoming reception that sets the tone for an enchanting night of good food, engaging conversation, and shared passion for a great cause. Tickets are priced at £70 and include a three-course dinner crafted by expert chefs.
The dress code for the evening is Black Tie or lounge suit, so do join us dressed in your finest, ready to enjoy a night of elegance and charity.
Special Guest Speaker: Harry Hunter
We are honoured to have Harry Hunter as our guest speaker. Mr. Hunter is the oldest Briton to have run the Marathon Des Sables, one of the toughest footraces on earth, spanning 160 miles over seven grueling days across the Sahara Desert.
He undertook this immense challenge to raise funds for Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice Service, and his dedication to our cause is truly inspiring. During the dinner, Mr. Hunter will share captivating stories from his experience, offering a glimpse into the mental and physical endurance required for such an extraordinary feat.
An Evening for a Worthy Cause
This glamorous event is not just an evening of celebration but also a meaningful way to support our charity, which is dedicated to providing specialist care and support to children with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions, as well as their families.
The funds raised at this year’s Mayor’s Charity Dinner will go directly towards enhancing the services we offer, ensuring that we can continue to be there for the children and families who need us most.
Location: Windsor Guildhall
Steeped in history, Windsor Guildhall is a venue that perfectly encapsulates the grandeur of Windsor itself. Situated just a stone’s throw away from Windsor Castle, it has long been a focal point for significant events and gatherings. The Guildhall’s regal interiors and rich heritage will provide a stunning backdrop for what promises to be an extraordinary night.
Windsor’s Guildhall was designed by Sir Thomas Fitch in 1687 who oversaw its initial construction but died in 1688 before the building was completed, nine days after having been created a baronet. The Guildhall was completed in 1690 and instantly became the home of Windsor’s Town Council.
The building is a Grade I listed building. It ceased to be the home of Windsor’s town council in 1974, when the local authorities of Windsor and Maidenhead joined forces and became the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead, incorporating the two main towns and several surrounding villages in Berkshire region.
The main home for the Royal borough council is now the town hall in Maidenhead but the Guildhall, Windsor is still owned and run by the local authority and is host for various council meetings, corporate events and most especially, civil marriage and civil partnership ceremonies.
HRH the Prince of Wales (now King Charles III) and Camilla Parker Bowles (now Queen Consort) were married there on the 9 April 2005. The same year, Singer, Elton John and his partner David Furnish had their Civil Partnership ceremony there on the 21 December.

Need our help?
The word hospice should not seem scary and getting support from us doesn’t have to mean a child’s death is imminent. Helping to enrich the lives of the children and their families is at the heart of our service, our end of life and bereavement support is just a part of what we do.
Our children’s hospice service covers the whole of Berkshire and into surrounding counties. If you think your child may be eligible for our services, please do get in touch.
