Bringing Seasonal Joy: A Heart-Warming Collaboration with Spread a Smile
At Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice Service, we strive to create spaces that are filled with warmth, joy, and a sense of magic for the children and families we support.
Recently, we had the pleasure of collaborating with Spread a Smile, a London-based charity that brings cheer to seriously ill children through art, entertainment, and positive engagement. Their work beautifully aligns with our mission, and we were thrilled to welcome their talented team for an exciting new project.
This latest collaboration saw Marina and Tina from Spread a Smile visit our hospice to give the dining room windows a seasonal transformation. The result is a stunning mural that brings the magic of autumn and Christmas to life, replacing our summer-themed mural.
The window now features cosy autumnal scenes, complete with falling leaves, pumpkins, and wildlife, which will soon transition into a festive wonderland, sparkling with snowflakes, Christmas trees, and joyful holiday characters.
For the children and families at Alexander Devine, these visuals offer more than just a pleasant view. The playful, colourful designs help to create an atmosphere that is both comforting and uplifting. It is especially important during these seasons, when the weather gets colder and many children may spend more time indoors.
Having such vibrant, joyful images greeting them as they enter the dining room makes a real difference in their day-to-day experience.
Spread a Smile’s talented artists have been involved in similar mural projects at hospitals and hospices across the UK, and we are delighted that their creative magic has reached us.
We are grateful to Spread a Smile for brightening our space with their art and for continuing to spread joy during the upcoming festive season.
The mural serves as a reminder that even in challenging times, there is beauty and wonder to be found. Thank you, Spread a Smile, for your incredible work!

Need our help?
The word hospice should not seem scary and getting support from us doesn’t have to mean a child’s death is imminent. Helping to enrich the lives of the children and their families is at the heart of our service, our end of life and bereavement support is just a part of what we do.
Our children’s hospice service covers the whole of Berkshire and into surrounding counties. If you think your child may be eligible for our services, please do get in touch.
