Memories by Moonlight: A Special Evening of Remembrance
On Saturday 30th November 2024, Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice Service hosted a heartfelt gathering at our hospice in Maidenhead. The ‘Memories by Moonlight’ event, held from 3-5 pm, was a poignant and supportive occasion dedicated to bereaved families, providing a space to honour and remember their children.
The hospice was softly lit, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere where families could come together in a spirit of shared remembrance. The event offered various memory-making activities, allowing attendees to create personal keepsakes to celebrate the cherished memories of their loved ones. Craft stations invited participants to write messages and decorate keepsakes, all lovingly designed to provide comfort and reflection.
A moving candle-lighting ceremony was the focal point of the afternoon. Families gathered to light candles in memory of their children, each flame symbolising love and enduring connection. The gentle glow of the candles, accompanied by a few reflective words, created a serene and beautiful moment of togetherness.
One of the event’s most treasured aspects was the opportunity for families to meet others who have experienced similar loss. The hospice team, including counsellors and support staff, facilitated spaces where families could share stories, offer mutual encouragement, and build connections. For many, this sense of community was a vital reminder that they are not alone in their grief.
Light refreshments were served, including warm drinks and delicious treats, which provided a comforting backdrop for conversations. Both adults and children were warmly welcomed, and the hospice grounds offered safe and serene spaces for reflection and quiet moments.
Fiona Devine, CEO of Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice Service, shared, “‘Memories by Moonlight’ is a deeply meaningful event for our hospice. It is an honour to provide families with a safe space to remember their children and connect with others who understand their journey.”
We extend heartfelt thanks to everyone who joined us for this special evening. For more information on our bereavement support services, please contact our team.
