Alexander Devine Shining Bright at the Eton Lights Switch-On
The countdown to Christmas officially began with the spectacular Eton Lights switch this past Thursday 14th November 2024 and Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice Service was thrilled to be part of the festivities.
Amid the twinkling lights and cheerful crowds, our team brought the magic of the season to life with a festive stall and a magical Santa’s Grotto.
The event was a joyous occasion for the local community, and it was heartwarming to see so many families enjoying the holiday atmosphere. Our stall was bustling throughout the evening, offering a delightful array of Christmas goodies, including handmade decorations, sweet treats, and small gifts, all lovingly curated to spread festive cheer and raise vital funds for our hospice.
None of this would have been possible without our incredible team. Nicole Woodfield, our Community and Events Fundraiser, led the charge with her infectious enthusiasm and meticulous organisation. Alongside her was a team of passionate volunteers who gave their time, energy, and hearts to ensure the evening was a success.
A huge thank you goes to Martin, Silvia, Leslie, Richard, Issy, and Helen, who went above and beyond, from setting up the grotto to running the stall and engaging with visitors. Their warmth and hard work embodied the spirit of the season, and we are deeply grateful for their continued support.
“Events like the Eton Lights switch on are a fantastic way for us to connect with the community and spread awareness of the work we do,” said Nicole. “I couldn’t have asked for a more amazing team of volunteers to help make the night such a success. They are the heart and soul of what we do, and we simply couldn’t do it without them.”
As the evening drew to a close, we reflected on how much this support means – not just for our hospice, but for the babies, children, young people and families we care for. Every penny raised at the event helps us continue providing vital care and support to children with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions and their families.
From all of us at Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice Service, thank you to everyone who visited our stall, stepped into our grotto, and made the evening so special. And to our volunteers: you are the stars who help us shine.
Here’s to more magical moments this festive season! ✨

Need our help?
The word hospice should not seem scary and getting support from us doesn’t have to mean a child’s death is imminent. Helping to enrich the lives of the children and their families is at the heart of our service, our end of life and bereavement support is just a part of what we do.
Our children’s hospice service covers the whole of Berkshire and into surrounding counties. If you think your child may be eligible for our services, please do get in touch.
