Local Adventurers to Row 3,000 Miles Fundraising for Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice Service
On Sunday 14th December, The Ocean Oarsmen, Ben Cornwell and Henry Eastick, will embark on a monumental challenge, rowing 3,000 miles, unsupported across the Atlantic Ocean, from La Gomera to Antigua.
The journey, lasting up to 60 days, will test the duo’s physical and mental strength as they face sleep deprivation and 20-foot waves while rowing in two-hour shifts on their small ocean rowing boat, PEGASUS.

This extraordinary expedition has a deeply meaningful purpose, with the team aiming to raise £50,000 for Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice Service, a Maidenhead based charity that supports over 200 babies, children and young people with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions, and their families, across Berkshire, South Bucks and into surrounding counties.
Ben Cornwell shared:
“Rowing 3,000 miles unsupported across the Atlantic is nothing compared to the daily hardship that families supported at Alexander Devine can go through. Our row is a testament to their incredible strength and resilience, and our dream is to make a tangible difference in our community, whilst embracing this adventure of a lifetime.”
CEO and Founder of Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice Service, Fiona Devine said:
“The epic challenge that Ben and Henry are attempting, is truly inspiring. With such an ambitious fundraising target, we know their determination and spirit will carry them through. May their voyage across the Atlantic be safe and successful – we’ll be following the journey closely. Good luck, Ocean Oarsmen, and thank you for making waves for such a great cause!”
