Winter Hill Golf Club Celebrates 50th Anniversary by Supporting Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice Service
Winter Hill Golf Club has proudly announced that Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice Service will be its Charity of the Year as the club celebrates its 50th anniversary.
Incoming Club Captain, Bill Walker and Lady Captain, Sue Dale selected the charity on behalf of the club’s members, marking the start of their fundraising efforts during the Captain’s Drive-In event held on Sunday 1st March.
This partnership holds special significance for the club. Ten years ago, during Winter Hill’s 40th anniversary, Alexander Devine was also chosen as Charity of the Year, with members raising an impressive £10,000. This year, Walker and Dale are determined to go even further.
“We jokingly said we’d aim for £50,000,” said Bill, “but with the initiatives we’re planning and the support we hope to receive from local businesses, it’s becoming a very realistic target.”
Alongside traditional fundraising activities such as raffles and auctions at club events, the Captains have launched a new sponsorship initiative for the course’s 18 holes. With the support of the club’s operators, Get Golfing, businesses are being invited to sponsor individual holes for a year.
With more than 60,000 rounds of golf played annually at Winter Hill, sponsors will benefit from significant exposure. More than 50% of those rounds are played by visiting societies and guests, providing fresh audiences for sponsoring businesses throughout the year.
Sponsorship opportunities include:
- Single hole sponsorship: £1,500 per year.
- Dual hole sponsorship: £1,000 per sponsor.
- Triple hole sponsorship: £500 per sponsor.
- Signage production: £60.
Premium locations are also available for the first hole, putting green and chipping areas. If fully subscribed, the scheme could generate up to £30,000 for the charity.
Businesses interested in taking part are invited to contact Bill Walker at bwwhgc@gmail.com for further details.
Fundraising is already well underway. The club’s 50th Anniversary Charity Cup raised £1,000, while the Captain’s Drive-In event generated a further £3,000.
A full calendar of activities is planned throughout the year, including a charity car wash, charity golf day, and an ambitious challenge to play 72 holes of golf in a single day, along with many other events organised by members.
Bill Walker said:
“It’s a great honour and privilege to be Captain at Winter Hill Golf Club in its 50th year. I’m delighted that we have Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice as our charity partner. Every pound we raise is going to such a great cause, and we’re energised to run as many events as possible to support children with life-limiting and life-threatening illnesses.”
With 85% of the costs needed to fund Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice Service coming from donations and fundraising initiatives just like this, these partnerships are vital to continue providing the level of care and support to babies, children and young people with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions and their families that the hospice does.
If you’re interested in supporting the Winter Hill Golf Club charity fundraising, or if you’re a local business who would like to sponsor a hole, please reach out to Bill directly on bwwhgc@gmail.com.
