Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice Service Celebrates Good Rating Following CQC Inspection
Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice Service is proud to be celebrating a Good rating following its latest Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspection, recognising the dedication, compassion and commitment of its staff in delivering specialist care and support to local babies, children, young people and families. The final report highlighted the exceptional standard of personalised care and the positive difference the team makes to the lives of the families it supports.
In the report, the CQC recognised the central role children play in shaping the service, stating “Children were at the heart of the service. Staff consistently went above and beyond to ensure care was personalised, meaningful and tailored to each child’s individual needs
and wishes.”
The report also praised the hospice’s deeply caring culture, highlighting the kindness, warmth and genuine passion demonstrated by staff, alongside their commitment to understanding and responding to the individual needs of every child and family.
Inspectors heard from families about the profound impact of the hospice’s respite care, emotional support and wider family services. One parent described the importance of being able to rest and recharge, saying “This is the only place where we can leave our child and we can sleep peacefully.”

Fiona Devine MBE, Founder and CEO of Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice Service, said “We are delighted to receive a Good rating following our latest CQC inspection. This is a wonderful achievement and a real reflection of the incredible teamwork, dedication and commitment shown by staff across our entire organisation.
Every member of our team plays an important part in the care and support we provide, and it is particularly rewarding to see the inspectors recognise the compassion, kindness and personalised approach that sits at the heart of our service. We are so proud of the difference our team makes to all our supported families.
As we look ahead to celebrating our 20th anniversary in 2027, this recognition gives us a real sense of positivity and momentum for the future.”
The CQC report also highlighted the hospice’s strong culture of learning and improvement, the commitment of its leadership team and the collaborative relationships it has developed with external healthcare partners to ensure children receive the best, personalised care possible.
Alexander Devine approaches its 20th anniversary, the rating provides an opportunity to celebrate the people, staff and volunteers behind the service and the collective effort that enables the hospice to continue making a lasting difference to babies, children, young people and families across Berkshire, South Bucks and the surrounding counties.
