Supporting siblings with adventurous activities during February Half Term

It was an unforgettable half term in February for the siblings of families we support at Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice. Secondary school age brothers and sisters were able to take part in an array of exciting and adventurous activities. We know how important sibling support is and school holidays are the perfect time for them to have fun, relax and create lasting memories! It’s heart-warming to see how appreciative the children’s parents are of the support their children receive and how much these days mean to them.

Highlights of the special day included an exciting pirate-themed escape room challenge session at Escape 3600 in Maidenhead which was generously donated for free. The teenagers had to crack clues to escape an abandoned pirate hub on a Caribbean Island before its bloodthirsty one-eyed owner returned! The amazing fun continued at the facility with a virtual reality experience, games of pool, air hockey and retro gaming. One parent commented that her daughter loved the day so much she has asked to go back to the Escape Room for her birthday!

A great time was also to be had at the hospice where our young people were able to enjoy creative crafts and sensory room activities as well as have adventures in our fully accessible playground.

Happy days like these are so important to give children a sense of belonging and are a fantastic opportunity for brothers and sisters to play and bond with other children going through similar experiences. These moments of laughter, teamwork, and adventures are so important — ensuring that siblings feel supported, included, and celebrated.
