Trek the Camino de Santiago in 2027 to Celebrate 20 Years of Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice Service

In 2027, Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice Service will celebrate a remarkable milestone – our 20th Anniversary. To mark this special occasion, we’re inviting you to join CEO and Founder, Fiona Devine on an unforgettable journey along one of the world’s most iconic pilgrimage routes, the Camino de Santiago.

This is more than just a walk, it is an opportunity to challenge yourself, create lifelong memories, and help raise vital awareness and funds for the babies, children and young people with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions, and families we support.

The Challenge

Dates: 12th – 19th September 2027

Location: Portugal and Northern Spain

Over six days of walking, you’ll cover more than 110km along the historic Camino de Santiago, travelling through beautiful Portuguese and Spanish towns, scenic countryside, forest trails and ancient pilgrimage routes.

This eight-day adventure offers the perfect balance of challenge, camaraderie and culture, with plenty of opportunities to soak up the atmosphere of the Camino while making a real difference for local families.

Whether you’re an experienced walker or looking for your next meaningful challenge, this trek is designed to be achievable with preparation and determination.

In 2025, Fiona and a team of dedicated supporters took on the Camino de Santiago for the first time, walking more than 100km to raise vital funds for Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice Service.

Reflecting on her experience, Fiona said: “The physical challenge was tougher than I expected. Yet in those difficult moments, my thoughts turned to Alexander and the children we support. They reminded me why I was there and gave me the push I needed when my energy waned.”

The journey tested participants with steep climbs, long days on their feet and challenging terrain, but it also delivered incredible moments of achievement, friendship and personal growth.

One participant, Bob Crittenden, aged 81, summed up the experience perfectly:

The 2025 team formed lasting friendships, shared unforgettable experiences and raised over £43,000 to support hospice care for local children and their families.

Now, we’re returning to the Camino in our 20th anniversary year, and we’d love you to be part of it.

Spaces are limited, and interest is already growing for this special anniversary challenge. So, if you’ve ever dreamed of walking the Camino de Santiago, now is your chance to do it while supporting an incredible cause.

Need our help?

The word hospice should not seem scary and getting support from us doesn’t have to mean a child’s death is imminent. Helping to enrich the lives of the children and their families is at the heart of our service, our end of life and bereavement support is just a part of what we do.

Our children’s hospice service covers the whole of Berkshire, South Bucks and into surrounding counties. If you think your child may be eligible for our services, please do get in touch.
