CBeebies presenter makes surprise visit to our family fun day

Conservationist, Dr Jess French, enthrals children at our Spring Family Fun day

On 17 April, a Spring Family Fun day at Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice Service had an extra special surprise visitor for the children and their siblings. Dr Jess French, who presents the CBeebies series Minibeast Adventures with Jess, came along to the fun day at the Maidenhead hospice to help plant trees that had been donated by Octopus Energy.

The hospice was chosen as a VIP beneficiary of the Octopus Energy scheme after being put forward by one of the Alexander Care Team, Sarah Maskell. Commenting on being chosen, Sarah said:

“I’m thrilled that my nomination has resulted in this fantastic addition to the gardens. The species have been selected for their sensory impact so will be enjoyed by the children in many different ways as they grow.   It is also so exciting to be chosen by Octopus Energy for the special visit from Jess French. What a wonderful treat for our children and their siblings!”

Octopus Energy is donating trees to charities and community groups across the country. Organiser of the scheme, Tim Troy, said, “We’re so pleased to see that small contribution will make such a lasting impact for this very worthwhile cause and to be joined by Jess today is just a wonderful way to mark the occasion. ”

During the morning, the children, who have life-limiting or life-threatening conditions, and their families participated in various crafts and activities, arranged and supported by the Alexander Care Team. It included a very popular Easter egg hunt with eggs and toys generously donated by local companies and community groups.

Need our help?

The word hospice should not seem scary and getting support from us doesn’t have to mean a child’s death is imminent. Helping to enrich the lives of the children and their families is at the heart of our service, our end of life and bereavement support is just a part of what we do.

Our children’s hospice service covers the whole of Berkshire and into surrounding counties. If you think your child may be eligible for our services, please do get in touch.
