Daring Daredevils complete skydive

We are in complete awe of all the Devine Daredevils who took to the skies this September to complete their tandem skydives.

The heroic efforts of these 11 skydivers have so far raised over £7,700 between them. An amazing amount of money that could fund an Alexander’s nurse to provide over 200 hours of care.

Taking part in the jump was our very own specialist play therapist, Liz Johnson. The skydive was completely out of her comfort zone, but she was determined to not let that stop her:

“I see first hand in my job what a huge difference our children’s hospice service makes to the children and their families we support. The last few months especially has really shown me how much we are needed and how vital it is that our charity continues to be there for them.

Not many people realise that children’s hospices like ours rely nearly entirely on donations and fundraising to fund our service. And with most of our fundraising events cancelled this year, I know it is really hard at the moment to raise the money we need so it made me all the more determined to fundraise.

Signing up for this challenge was a huge surprise to my family and friends. I am certainly not known for being a thrill-seeker!

However, I wanted to do something that would inspire people to support me as well as being something of a personal challenge. Signing up as part of the Devine Daredevil skydive was an amazing opportunity for me to take on a challenge of a lifetime and importantly make a difference to the amazing children and families I meet working at Alexander Devine.

I can honestly say that jumping out of that plane is nothing like anything I have experienced. I was the first to jump from my plane and freefalling was just indescribable. It was truly a bucket list experience! Would I do it again? Well they say the second time round is even better, so who knows?!”

Need our help?

The word hospice should not seem scary and getting support from us doesn’t have to mean a child’s death is imminent. Helping to enrich the lives of the children and their families is at the heart of our service, our end of life and bereavement support is just a part of what we do.

Our children’s hospice service covers the whole of Berkshire and into surrounding counties. If you think your child may be eligible for our services, please do get in touch.
