15 years of stories: The Dando family

Watching the hospice grow from a small team in an office in Slough to a fully operational building that continues to be an absolute lifeline for so many families has been a privilege and an honour” – Clare Dando, Alexander Devine volunteer

As we mark our charity’s 15th birthday, throughout this year we want to celebrate all the incredible people that have made it possible to reach this milestone. We share our journey with countless people have helped take our charity from a vision for a much-needed children’s hospice service to a reality.

Throughout 2022 we will be sharing many of these stories. You can also read more or add your own story in our special 15th Birthday Book

—————

14 years of fundraising

The Dando family first started supporting us in 2008 and we are incredibly grateful for everything they have done for us over the last 14 years. Mum Clare, shared their story:

“Our family have been involved in fundraising for Alexander Devine ever since our own Alex (pictured) was just six months old in December 2008.

We, along with another wonderful volunteer Anita, set up and ran the Wokingham Fundraising Group (now brillitantly managed by Tracey!). Over the years we have organised walks, runs, tombolas, teddy bears’ picnics and were even lucky enough to be at the hospice groundbreaking event.

We continue to help out when we can and remain incredibly proud to be part of such an amazing team. Watching the hospice grow from a small team in an office in Slough to a fully operational building that continues to be an absolute lifeline for so many families has been a privilege and an honour.

Happy 15th Birthday to Fiona and the Alexander Devine team!”

Need our help?

The word hospice should not seem scary and getting support from us doesn’t have to mean a child’s death is imminent. Helping to enrich the lives of the children and their families is at the heart of our service, our end of life and bereavement support is just a part of what we do.

Our children’s hospice service covers the whole of Berkshire and into surrounding counties. If you think your child may be eligible for our services, please do get in touch.
