Alexander Devine’s Santa Dash returns to Windsor

Now in its 9th year, our Alexander Devine Santa Dash is a popular way for hundreds of people across Berkshire to kick off the festive season.

Last year, due to the pandemic, the event was unable to take place in Windsor and we instead organised a virtual event. Hundreds of supporters across the region signed up and did 5km their way, raising a record-breaking £30,000 for our local children’s hospice service.

Due to the popularity of last year’s virtual format, this year we are giving participants the option of either joining in the fun in Windsor or taking part virtually.

CEO Fiona Devine, is hoping that the annual sell-out event will again prove to be as popular this year and raise the vital funds that the charity needs to deliver the specialist care and support local families rely upon. She said:

“There’s nothing quite like watching our sea of red Santas dashing through the streets of Windsor and along the Long Walk. So we are so thrilled that we can again hold this event in person in Windsor for our 9th year.

It is proving to be as popular as ever, with over half our tickets sold already! This year we are giving people the choice of joining us in Windsor or again taking part virtually and doing 5km their way. Last year, we raised more than £30,000 and we hope that this year we can do even better!

We want to also thank Horler Estate Agents for their generosity in sponsoring our Santa Dash again. Their continued support means every penny of people’s entry free and any additional sponsorship raised will help us continue to be there for seriously-ill local children and their families.

Hundreds of supporters have already signed up and the event is proving particularly popular with families supported by Alexander Devine with the Windsor route being accessible for wheelchairs and prams, as well as the virtual format giving them the option of doing it when and where they want.

One of these families is Sarah Shiel from Burnham and her six year old son Franké, who has a life-limiting condition. This is their second year taking part in Alexander Devine’s Santa Dash having signed up to last year’s virtual event.

Mum Sarah said:

“There are 9 of us taking part this year as Team Frank’s and we would love to raise over £1,000 for this special charity that means so much to us.

When we were first referred to the hospice we were in a sad place but Alexander Devine bought some light back to our life. Providing love, support and laughter when we needed it most. Franké adores the sensory room and splashing in the pool and even came for his first ever sleepover in the summer.”

Registration is now open and to sign up visit www.alexanderdevine.org/santadash

This year’s event is kindly sponsored by Horler Estate Agents.

Need our help?

The word hospice should not seem scary and getting support from us doesn’t have to mean a child’s death is imminent. Helping to enrich the lives of the children and their families is at the heart of our service, our end of life and bereavement support is just a part of what we do.

Our children’s hospice service covers the whole of Berkshire and into surrounding counties. Anyone can make a referral to Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice Service and if you think your child may be eligible for our services, please do get in touch.

This December we want to share with you some of the different ways we bring comfort and joy to the children and families that we support, all thanks to your support.

It's Day 1 and look who's behind today's door...

Life for Harry is very different to most children his age. 5 year old Harry was born with a rare neurological condition called Moebius syndrome. It means he can’t smile, blink or move his eyes. He is also very weak and can’t sit up or walk. He struggles to swallow so is fed through a peg tube.

Harry’s family are determined to make sure Harry has every opportunity to experience things other children his age do. And visits to our hospice do just that. As well as an opportunity for much-needed respite for his parents, it is also the chance for Harry to have fun, whether that is splashing in the pool, playing in the playground or enjoying music therapy.

You can help continue to bring comfort and joy to children like Harry by donating to our Christmas Appeal ➡www.alexanderdevine.org/christmas
