Wilson Partners smash 3 Peak Challenge

Over the weekend of 25th and 26th June, a team of 16 from Wilson Partners, a financial firm based in Maidenhead, took on the tough challenge of climbing the national 3 Peaks in just 24 hours. They were absolutely phenomenal and smashed their fundraising target.

Here’s how they got on…

“With a range of differing fitness levels, we knew it was not going to be an easy task but we were all determined to see it through and help raise vital funds for Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice Service as part of the charity’s #RockTheBlue campaign for Children’s Hospice Week.

There was 1250 miles of driving, 20 miles of hiking, 40 hours with minimal sleep and thankfully 0 injuries (except from some dodgy knees!)…and we are so proud to say we smashed our fundraising target and raised a phenomenal £5,807!

Due to circumstances out of our control, we very sadly did not make it within the planned 24 hours and just missed the top of Snowdon by 500 feet. This was in part due to a slower than planned Ben Nevis climb, driving delays and biblical weather on Snowdon.”

Here’s what some of the team said….

Paul Hyde shared his highlight of the challenge:

Racing up Scafell Pike in the dead of night was a highlight, it had a bit of everything – tricky terrain, rain, hail, thunder and, most importantly, a bit of a sing along led by our designated morale officer James Feast.”

Dan James remembered his most special parts of the weekend:

“Climbing Ben Nevis felt really special for me. It was the start of our challenge so spirits were high and the sun was shining so we got some amazing views as we made the first part of the ascent. The rain came and went providing stunning rainbows over the lakes below and as we got higher and higher the terrain became more difficult, the temperature dropped and so did visibility. Reaching the snow caps was pretty cool and then arriving at the very top of the UK was an incredible feeling! At that point I had forgotten it was another few hours to get back down again!”

Allan Wilson praised the teamwork and determination of everyone involved:

“Whilst the aches and pains will hopefully fade quickly, the memories of a fantastic weekend will live long! Resilience, determination, great team work and a lot of laughs contributed to a challenge I’ll never forget. I feel very lucky to have shared it with a great team and all the better for having exceeded our fund raising target for Alexander Devine”

Inspired to take on a physical and tough challenge like Wilson Partners? Here’s their top 3 tips…

“Firstly – you do need all the gear. Effective waterproofs are your best friend. Secondly – snacks, snacks and more snacks! And thirdly – it’s going to be tough by singing Sweet Caroline will definitely get you through!”

Need our help?

The word hospice should not seem scary and getting support from us doesn’t have to mean a child’s death is imminent. Helping to enrich the lives of the children and their families is at the heart of our service, our end of life and bereavement support is just a part of what we do.

Our children’s hospice service covers the whole of Berkshire and into surrounding counties. If you think your child may be eligible for our services, please do get in touch.

Remember our very special Christmas gift from Volvo? 🚗🎁

It’s a gift that really has been making a huge difference to us at Alexander Devine, especially in helping us provide additional support for families like Huzaifah's.

Huzaifah, who is not yet two years old, up until earlier this year had spent just 7 weeks of his life out of hospital. Our team have been supporting the family in trying to keep him safe at home as much as possible, and now we can also help the family with taking him to his hospital appointments for vital treatment.

Using the car meant our Alexander's Nurses and Carers could safely transport Huzaifah along with his wheelchair, additional oxygen cylinders, suction machine and the extra team members we need to keep him safe during the journey.

Thank you Volvo for helping us make even more of a difference to children and families that we support.
