Charity book stall sells over 1,000 books in just 3 days!

A group of our volunteers has raised a record amount of money from a three day pop-up book stall in Maidenhead’s Nicholsons Shopping Centre last week.

Alexander Devine’s Maidenhead Fundraising Group ran its book stall from Thursday 22nd to Saturday 24th September.

Generous shoppers snapped up over 1,000 books from the stall, which was selling new and ‘good as new’ donated children’s books.

Helen Johnson, one of the organisers of the Maidenhead Fundraising Group, thanked shoppers for generously supporting the stall:

“We were absolutely blown away by the support we received over the three days. We know that our pop-up book and toy shops are always popular with the local community and last week’s stall was a record breaker for us!

We were thrilled that shoppers bought over 1,000 books and helped us to raise an amazing £1,331.50 for Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice Service.

We would like to thank everyone who kindly donated books for us to sell and to everyone who supported our stall. We can’t wait to return on Thursday 20th October for our next three day charity book sale”

With 100% of money from each book sold going directly to the charity, it means that the funds raised will make an enormous difference to local children and their families supported by our children’s hospice service, helping to fund the specialist care and vital support that they need.

Debbie Tonkinson, Volunteer Development Managers, praised the efforts of the Maidenhead Fundraising Group:

“We are so grateful to this wonderful group of volunteers for their dedication and commitment to our charity. The countless hours that they gift to Alexander Devine is phenemonal and the vital funds they have raised over the years is incredible. We can’t thank them enough for all that they have done and continue to do.”

The next book stall will be held at the Nicholsons Shopping Centre in Maidenhead from Thursday 20th October to Saturday 22th October, from 9.00am – 5.00 pm.

Need our help?

The word hospice should not seem scary and getting support from us doesn’t have to mean a child’s death is imminent. Helping to enrich the lives of the children and their families is at the heart of our service, our end of life and bereavement support is just a part of what we do.

Our children’s hospice service covers the whole of Berkshire and into surrounding counties. If you think your child may be eligible for our services, please do get in touch.

Remember our very special Christmas gift from Volvo? 🚗🎁

It’s a gift that really has been making a huge difference to us at Alexander Devine, especially in helping us provide additional support for families like Huzaifah's.

Huzaifah, who is not yet two years old, up until earlier this year had spent just 7 weeks of his life out of hospital. Our team have been supporting the family in trying to keep him safe at home as much as possible, and now we can also help the family with taking him to his hospital appointments for vital treatment.

Using the car meant our Alexander's Nurses and Carers could safely transport Huzaifah along with his wheelchair, additional oxygen cylinders, suction machine and the extra team members we need to keep him safe during the journey.

Thank you Volvo for helping us make even more of a difference to children and families that we support.

After a busy morning splashing in the pool, getting messy in the creative zone or playing outside in the gardens, it’s the perfect place to unwind (for Alexander’s Nurses and Carers too!)
