Volvo’s extra special Christmas gift for our charity
On Wednesday 14th December, we were thrilled to receive an amazing Christmas present from Volvo Car UK in the form of a brand new fully electric XC40 Recharge.
The car manufacturer, which has its UK headquarters in Maidenhead, generously provided us with the car free-of-charge for an initial one year period, while also covering all insurance, service and maintenance costs. The fully electric car will help support us with reducing petrol and mileage costs, which we estimate to be a saving of over £1,000 across the year based on current electricity charges. Volvo is also covering the cost and installation of a domestic charging point to ensure we are able to recharge quickly and easily onsite.
The electric car will be used by Alexander’s Nurses and Carers as part of our community respite service in which we visit children and their families at home or in hospital. We support families across the whole of Berkshire and into surrounding counties, so the costs of making these trips can be expensive.
The car will also be used by our fundraising team, which relies heavily on community fundraising events to raise the money we need to run our much-needed children’s hospice service.
Tai Bishop, Lead for Corporate Fundraising, praised the generosity of Volvo:
“As Christmas presents goes, this is pretty special! The gift of this car to help with visits to families and also with our fundraising, is so generous and with it being fully electric, it will make such a big impact on our costs and our environmental impact.
Our enormous thanks to the Volvo team for its incredible generosity. It is definitely a present that will keep giving back throughout the year!”
Gemma Denes, People Director at Volvo Car UK said:
“We are really proud to continue supporting the Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice Service. We know that this electric XC40 will make a positive difference, while helping their amazing nurses and carers to continue offering such incredible support to the families who need it most. We’ve worked together with Alexander Devine for the past few years, and hope to continue supporting the fundraising they need to run this vital service for many more years to come.”
Need our help?
The word hospice should not seem scary and getting support from us doesn’t have to mean a child’s death is imminent. Helping to enrich the lives of the children and their families is at the heart of our service, our end of life and bereavement support is just a part of what we do.
Our children’s hospice service covers the whole of Berkshire and into surrounding counties. If you think your child may be eligible for our services, please do get in touch.
