How Our Community Came Together to Support Alexander Devine
September has been a remarkable month for Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice Service, with several inspiring fundraising efforts helping us raise vital funds to continue our work. From corporate charity walks to vibrant school events, our community has come together in wonderful ways to support the children and families we care for.
Here’s a look back at some of the fantastic efforts from the past few weeks.
Spadeoak’s 10-Mile Challenge: Walking the Extra Mile
On Thursday 12th September, the incredible team from Spadeoak took on the challenge of walking over 10 miles from their office in Wooburn Green, Buckinghamshire, to our hospice in Maidenhead, Berkshire.
This wasn’t just a stroll in the park; the walk required stamina and determination, and the team faced every step with a sense of purpose. Along the way, the walkers were driven by the knowledge that their efforts were making a tangible difference. Their remarkable journey, which spanned both urban and countryside landscapes, raised more than £1,000 for our hospice.
Reflecting on the experience, the team from Spadeoak shared how meaningful the walk was to them, especially knowing that the funds raised would support the children in our care. This is an inspiring example of how corporate partners can go above and beyond to make a difference. We are incredibly grateful for their continued support and dedication.
Splunk UK: A Journey of 14.5 Miles for a Cause Close to Their Hearts
On 8th September, a team of 25 employees from Splunk UK took on their own ambitious charity walk, covering a distance of 14.5 miles. Starting in Marlow, Buckinghamshire, and finishing in Windsor, Berkshire, the walk saw participants trekking through beautiful scenery, united by a shared goal: to raise funds for Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice Service.
Accompanied by two energetic dogs, the walkers navigated the lengthy route with enthusiasm, embracing the physical challenge while knowing that their efforts were in aid of a truly special cause. The team successfully raised over £6,000 for our hospice, a contribution that will have a lasting impact on the lives of the children and families we support.
Splunk UK’s participation in this walk was not just about raising money but also about raising awareness of the vital services we provide. We are deeply appreciative of their continued partnership and their commitment to making a difference. This event exemplifies the power of community and corporate engagement, and we hope it inspires others to get involved.

Reddam House Pupils: Adding a Splash of Colour to Fundraising
Reddam House, an independent school in Wokingham, Berkshire, showed how fundraising can be both fun and meaningful through their colourful charity event. Organised by the Parents and Friends Association (PFA), the school held a fantastic colour run that saw pupils running through clouds of vibrant powder while raising money for Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice Service.
This exciting event, full of energy and excitement, brought together the school community in a joyful celebration of giving. The pupils’ enthusiasm was infectious, and their efforts helped raise an impressive £754.01 for our hospice. Every penny raised will go directly towards helping us continue to provide specialist care and support to children with life-limiting conditions and their families.
The success of the Reddam House colour run demonstrates that fundraising doesn’t have to be serious to be impactful. By injecting fun into their event, the school created an unforgettable experience for everyone involved, all while making a significant contribution to a cause they care about.

The Impact of Community Spirit
At Alexander Devine, we are constantly inspired by the unwavering generosity of individuals, schools, and businesses alike. The efforts of Spadeoak, Splunk UK, and Reddam House highlight the incredible power of community spirit. Each of these events may have been different in nature—whether a walk through the countryside or a lively run covered in colourful powder—but they all shared the same goal: to support our hospice and the children and families who rely on us.
The funds raised from these events will help us continue to provide specialist palliative care and support to the children with life-threatening or life-limiting conditions that we care for. These donations enable us to offer vital services, such as our respite care, specialist therapy, and end-of-life care, as well as practical and emotional support to families during the most challenging of times.
We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone involved in these events. Your support is invaluable and makes a world of difference to the children and families we serve. We hope these inspiring stories will encourage even more people to get involved, whether through organising their own fundraising events or supporting existing initiatives.
Together, we can continue to make a profound difference in the lives of children and their families, providing them with the care, love, and support they need.

Need our help?
The word hospice should not seem scary and getting support from us doesn’t have to mean a child’s death is imminent. Helping to enrich the lives of the children and their families is at the heart of our service, our end of life and bereavement support is just a part of what we do.
Our children’s hospice service covers the whole of Berkshire and into surrounding counties. If you think your child may be eligible for our services, please do get in touch.
