Walking on Fire and Raising Money for a Great Cause!

Last week, the parking spaces outside Building 1410 in Arlington Park Reading, in Theale, were transformed into a glowing personification of courage and community spirit as Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice Service’s thrilling Firewalk event took place.

Over 50 brave participants, including our own staff, corporate partners and Arlington Park employees, joined us for this unforgettable evening. Together, they stepped across burning embers and raised an incredible £15,000 (and counting!) to support our vital work.

The event kicked off at 4:30pm, with excitement and anticipation buzzing in the air. After mingling and gathering strength from one another, participants attended a safety briefing and talk led by our very own Tai Bishop, our Lead for Corporate and Community Partnerships.

The briefing prepared everyone both mentally and physically for the challenge ahead, setting the tone with equal parts inspiration and encouragement.

At 6:15pm, it was time to face the fire! The coals burned at a blistering 1200°C, while the embers, sitting at just over 650°C, glowed like molten lava. One by one, participants took to the fire walk, moving swiftly and confidently across the fiery path.

It was a moment of pure determination and unity – a testament to the extraordinary things we can achieve when we come together for a cause.

We are truly in awe of every single firewalker who overcame their fears and stepped out of their comfort zones. A huge thank you to all the staff and participants who made this event such a success, and to Arlington Park for hosting us in their fantastic space.

Your support helps us provide life-changing care for the babies, children and young people we support, and respite for the families who need us most.

The fire walk was more than just a fundraising event – it was a powerful reminder of the strength of our community. Together, we’re helping to create a brighter future for the children and families we care for.

Thank you for your courage, generosity, and unwavering support.

Need our help?

The word hospice should not seem scary and getting support from us doesn’t have to mean a child’s death is imminent. Helping to enrich the lives of the children and their families is at the heart of our service, our end of life and bereavement support is just a part of what we do.

Our children’s hospice service covers the whole of Berkshire and into surrounding counties. If you think your child may be eligible for our services, please do get in touch.
