12 Days of Christmas: Three Volunteering Heroes

As we journey through our 12 Days of Christmas Campaign, today we shine a light on some of the incredible volunteers who make Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice Service so special.

On Day Three: Three Volunteering Heroes, we celebrate the outstanding dedication and passion of those who give their time to support our work. Without our volunteers, we simply couldn’t provide the care and support that so many children and their families rely on.

Spreading Christmas Joy: The Pop-Up Toy Shop Team

Led by the inspiring duo of Helen and Richard Johnson, a team of volunteers has been running our Christmas Pop-Up Toy Shop, which has raised approximately £20,000 in just six weeks!

Their tireless efforts have brought the community together to support Alexander Devine in the most heart-warming way. From organising donations to manning the shop and helping customers pick out the perfect gifts, this team has gone above and beyond to make a difference. Every pound raised will help fund vital care and services for the children and families we support, and we couldn’t be more grateful.

A Helping Hand from Our Corporate Volunteers

Christmas is a magical time at Alexander Devine, and thanks to the help of our corporate partners, we’re making this year’s celebrations extra special. A group of wonderful volunteers from our corporate supporters has been busy wrapping the many toy donations we’ve received for our Children’s Christmas Party.

From carefully folding festive paper to tying perfect bows, these helpers have ensured every gift is wrapped with care and love. Their hard work behind the scenes will bring smiles to the faces of the children who open these presents on Christmas morning.

Keeping Us Green and Beautiful: The Gardening Club

Every fortnight, the grounds at Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice are lovingly tended to by our Gardening Club, a dedicated group of volunteers who ensure our outdoor spaces remain a haven of tranquillity and beauty.

Led by Martin and Silvia, and supported by volunteers like Natalie, Liz, Roger, and Howard, this team mows lawns, trim hedges, and plants flowers, creating a space where families can find peace and joy. Their efforts throughout the year – rain or shine – are a true labour of love, and their work never goes unnoticed.

A Heartfelt Thank You to All Our Volunteers

While today we’ve highlighted three incredible groups, every single one of our volunteers plays a vital role in making Alexander Devine what it is.

Whether you’ve baked cakes, run marathons, lent a hand at events, supported us through corporate partnerships, or helped out in the hospice itself, you are the heart and soul of our charity.

Your kindness, dedication, and generosity ensure that we can continue to provide care and support to families when they need it most.

From all of us at Alexander Devine, thank you for everything you do. This Christmas, and every day, we are so grateful for each and every one of you.

Need our help?

The word hospice should not seem scary and getting support from us doesn’t have to mean a child’s death is imminent. Helping to enrich the lives of the children and their families is at the heart of our service, our end of life and bereavement support is just a part of what we do.

Our children’s hospice service covers the whole of Berkshire and into surrounding counties. If you think your child may be eligible for our services, please do get in touch.
