Curry night cooks up much-needed funds
On Friday 26th February, Alexander Devine hosted its Big Curry Night In event and, thanks to our generous supporters, we raised nearly £2,000 from the sale of curry kits and raffle tickets.
We hosted the virtual fundraising event after we were unable to host our annual much-loved Scrummy Mummy curry night due to current lockdown restrictions. This year would have been our 12th annual curry night. The tradition started back in 2007 when Fiona Devine, mother of Alexander Devine and charity founder, held her first Scrummy Mummy curry night to remember her son, serving a homemade curry to local supporters in the hall of Alexander’s school. It was named Scrummy Mummy as that was the nickname Alexander gave to his mum.
The event was kindly being supported by AB World Foods, Tesco and Marlow-based But First Cocktails which all contributed items for the Big Curry Night In kits. Those who bought kits were sent recipe cards, spices they would need, and a host of fun activities for the family to do at home.
Kate Wright, Fundraiser at Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice Service, said:
“We were absolutely blown away by the support for this event. From the generosity of local companies gifting us items for the kits to the number of people that took part and bought raffle tickets. There was such a wonderful sense of community, something that is always synonymous with our annual Scrummy Mummy night. We loved seeing all the photos people shared throughout the night of their curry creations and Alexander’s Granny was so thrilled that so many people also made her trifle! And, of course, to raise this much money was just fantastic, we are grateful to everyone that made it such a success.”
